Ringette Ontario, in active partnership with clubs, players, coaches, families, and the community is committed to fostering the values of fairness, sportsmanship, safety, and leadership to all members.
U12 TEAM FORMATION OBJECTIVES
Teams are formed within each Club and participate in a system of competition following the program principles focused on sport for life, long-term athlete development and long-term participant development. All Clubs can support community-based “Club” teams, built around skill development and fun.

U12 FAQ
Is U12A considered a competitive level?
No. U12A is a regional level. There was previously a competitive stream at U12, however, Ringette Ontario has since removed the competitive stream at this age group.
What is the difference between U12A and U12B?
Under Ringette Ontario guidelines, U12A and U12B are both regional levels and should look relatively similar in terms of the overall experience provided to players.
It is important to note that decisions regarding the number of tournaments, travel, additional purchased ice, dryland training, and other team activities are team-level decisions and may vary from team to team.
Does a U12A team receive more ice time than a U12B team?
No. When allocating ice, Sunderland Ringette Association provides all U12 teams with the same amount of association ice time.
Teams may choose to purchase additional ice, but this is a team-level decision and is not determined by whether a team is U12A or U12B.
What is the difference between Sort Skates and Tryouts?
While Sort Skates and Tryouts may look similar on the ice, they have different purposes.
Tryouts are used for competitive teams, with the goal of selecting players to form the most competitive team possible from the athletes attending.
Sort Skates are an evaluation of each player's individual skills, experience, and game sense. The purpose is to determine the level at which each player will be best suited to develop, learn, and compete successfully. The goal of Sort Skates is not to create the "strongest" team, but to place players in an environment that supports their continued development and overall enjoyment of the game.
